It is important to understand our connection with God is via our soul. The aspect of us that holds its citizenship in heaven. The aspect which all the things He tells us are true of us that is ours right now, that is also being ‘worked out’ in our physical, mental, and emotional experiences. Our mind plays a big role in this experience. It is important to distinguish the brain from the mind. The brain is an organ that is controlled by our mind. Your mind includes your thoughts, passions, will, etc. There is a lot of overlap between your heart and mind. The Hebrew word leb is the word for heart and speaks of the seat of our passions, desires, and courage. There is a uniqueness to you that no one else has. Your looks for sure, but I mean the fingerprint of God that is the unique you. You are getting to know that unique you, your original design. An internal witness and gauge that the Holy Spirit guides as He leads you.
Learning to think, love, delight, and joy. I want to think like God so I can choose His thinking above mine. Read Colossians 3:1-3. Remember, to become a Christian is to merely agree with God that you need Him and He is the solution. He left us the choice to think His ways, not our own. God gives us the freedom to choose how I’m going to think. God, what are you thinking? I want to think your way. He is light, love, goodness, joy, peace, faithfulness, gentleness, etc.
Thinking His way gets your focus off a problem and on to a possibility. In John 7 during the Feast of Tabernacles Jesus teaches on the last day when the water is poured out on the altar, now symbolic of the Holy Spirit (John 7:37-39). He's says that living water will flow from within. In John 8:32 when he talks about knowing it is He who will do these things. Then, we see the woman caught in adultery. We hear his charge to her to “go” after they all leave without stoning her. The word “go” used here is the same word used in Matthew 28, the great commission before Jesus ascends. It is a passive use of the word. Blue Letter Bible Interlinear defines it this way: "to carry over, transfer, to pursue the journey on which one has entered, to continue on one’s journey. To follow, that is: become his adherent, to lead or order one’s life." He is telling her discipleship and following His Word is the way to go! This is how we know the truth and it sets us free, His Word. Jesus himself and the Holy Spirit lived life. The life ordered this way is the true you. Free in full communion with Lord, with yourself, and with others.
This is from the first session of The Body Intelligence and Spirituality Program during the study of what it means to follow God. I am convinced God loves the unique you He's made, and wants deeply to be in an intimate relationship with you. There is likely a lot you've been told, or told yourself, about this unique you. Let's see what God says about that. I hope you'll join me on this journey of looking into what that looks like together. The next program starts January 6th.
