Choice, and control. These things are very important to a 2 year old. Why?
As we take our journey through the Chakras in my newsletter series (sign up on the homepage of my site to get it) we are looking at the different ages and stages of growth, and how yoga philosophy says spiritual energy works in the body. I've already done a workshop (message me, I'm happy to send it to you) on how Christians can do yoga so if this conversation scares you, I understand. We have been taught to fear what we don't know or understand. Though I would encourage you to watch the workshop and decide for yourself, not from what you've been taught.
As we've explored this, we've looked at the importance of our identity (last week), so this week we look at the stage of life where we realize a few things: we are different from our caregivers, we can explore the world around us, and we have some control. So back to the cup. Before I understood this, I took my sister's advice to choose my battles (thanks Annie) and say yes as often as possible, because when I had to say no it would matter. I didn't even realize in doing this, I was empowering my kids to make decisions and take responsibility. You see, they pitch a fit because they want some control, don't we all? So much is done for them, so they want a choice. This choice leads them to learn to experience emotions as a result of their choices...see where I am going with this? It is a huge life lesson!
If you want to learn more about it, sign up for my newsletter, it goes out tomorrow. And again, I'm more than happy to chat if you are working through some fear around this. I teach bi-weekly workshops and you are welcome to join one, even if it doesn't have to do with the subject at hand, so we can chat. Keep an eye out for my next one soon!
