The 200-Hour Mastery Journey

I remember the first time I became conscious that I was thinking about what I was thinking about. I was in an argument (picking one if I'm honest) with my husband. And, as I watched myself trying to sabotage the day, I saw it in real time. I had a moment of clarity and courage. I was able to tell him what I was thinking, why I was picking the fight, and it was instantly over. Of course it took a bit of time for the awkward energy to clear, but once it did, I was amazed at how fast we moved through it.
I was a little frustrated with myself too. This? This is all it took? Well no. Behind that moment of courage, and awareness of what I was doing, was a yoga practice that helped me to make a habit of seeing my patterns. Our brain loves these patterns, it relies on them. It's wired for survival so it loves default mode. A regular yoga practice helps you to recognize these patterns so transformation comes more smoothly. Not easy, smoothly. This journey started for me with a yoga teacher training, and I'm so grateful!
What is the easiest way to get started? Most yoga teachers would say, "get curious". Why do I feel this way? What was I doing prior, etc.? But, I've found there is a bit of work that needs to be done first. We need to be able to recognize patterns of behavior non-judgmentally before we can ever begin to get curious. If we've been trained to think we cannot trust ourselves, we won't even look at our own thoughts, we'll judge them first. By doing this, we shut down curiosity and this leads to default mode.
Many people who go through yoga teacher trainings don't ever even teach a class! They go through for their own personal development, transformation, and physical training.
